A Survey

I need some reader responses on this.

A guy and a girl are on their first date. They have met once or twice before during brief, group-type encounters. Now at dinner, the girl takes a trip to the restroom. When she doesn't return for 15 minutes, does the guy assume:

a) She's having some bowel issues.
b) She left, using the restroom as a convenient excuse.

Those are the only choices? What about: c) She got abducted by fashionistas because her handbag was terribly outdated, or d) she stopped at the bar to watch the Big Sporting Event on the hi-def flatscreen? Also, I think I need a little more context. Such as, is the date going well? Are they having somewhat interesting -- if nervous and stilted -- conversation? All that said, if I were the dude, I would be hoping it was A), but inwardly convinced it was B).

I was vague on purpose. I was looking for your gut reaction. But yes, it was going well. Or at least it seemed to be going well. What does "well" mean anyway on a first date? Isn't it pretty subjective?

And what exactly does it say about you - the hypothetical dude - that you are hoping she's having bowel problems. That's not very nice, is it?

So, I'm not quite sure how I've stumbled upon this blog thing this morning, but...here I am.
It was great to see you at Windi's wedding, I wish it wouldn't have been such a brief catch up though.

And as for your question, I'd say assume it's a bowel thing because quite frankly that was several of my first dates with Steve (poor guy), but I also have crohn's disease so...
;)

YOU GAVE ME TWO OPTIONS! If I have to choose between my date having intestinal discomfort and LYING TO MY FACE and then SNEAKING OUT ON ME, leaving me TOTALLY ALONE, I'm going to go with the first one. The first one is most likely momentary, but the second one will last for a long, long time. (Sorry, I got a iittle worked up there.)

If the date was going well, I would assume neither. Perhaps she is using the bathroom ploy to call her best friend and update her on the date, or maybe she had a sudden call come on her way back and had to answer it. I would wait longer, giving her the benefit of the doubt. And did she return, that is the important question, or did the guy leave, or is this simply a possible scenario?

i can only respond as a girl, but assume it's bowel issues. right? everybody poops, and sometimes it's not so convenient.

I say she is in the restroom dropping a deuce (or how you say bowel issues)

maasen, with comments like that how can you get away with not having your own blog?!?!?!

I'm thinking that the guy should mosey on into the ladies room and see what's up? If she is indeed, having bowel troubles, then they'll have that oh-so-awkward part of any serious relationship out of the way . . .

I would assume she was abducted by aliens. I've always found this happens at the most inconvenient times...or it happens to the lowest portion of the gene pool in Podunk, Arkansas, but for the sake of the example, I'll assume the date took place in Colorado (a good place for a date to happen), so that sort of eliminates my first guess.
The second option is that she was having the most incredible first date of her life and got so worked up she blew her blood pressure through the roof and gave herself a bloody nose. Just give it time fella; she'll be ok.

Hmm. . .very insightful, Mr. Anonymous

Susan, your comment to scott-co-owner was hilarious. Apparently he just "isn't very nice."

Why would an attractive girl who is enjoying our conversation ditch me? By default, I'm assuming she's in the bathroom fixing her makeup or something. Maybe a call on her cell. I'm definitely NOT thinking about my first date's bowels, as I don't even have thoughts about my wife's bowels. I guess I do when forced to because we share a room/bathroom and the occasional, unfortunate timing when I'm reading in bed and the door gets left open.
